lots of green, but not a drop of water
Barton Creek Greenbelt - 5/10/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3stars Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 4stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour
I hiked part of the lower greenbelt with my dog today. I thought there might be at least a puddle for him to wade in, but nope. Bone dry. Still a nice hike with all the vegetation and no crowds.
nice trail, but very poorly marked - we got lost!
Pedernales Falls - 5.5 Mile Loop - 3/16/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 3.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour, 30 minutes
I do a lot of hiking and don't usually get lost, but about a mile into the loop, the trail just faded away and we ended up bushwhacking through the woods for 20 minutes trying to find it again. We crossed the river, which was about ankle deep after a few days of rain the week before, climbed a steep hill, and then the trail evened out. It was pretty much flat all the rest of the way until we lost it in the woods. Since we had my husband's parents with us, we turned around and went back to the river for a swim, which was lovely! We didn't see anyone else on the trail at all once we crossed the river.
a hike that goes uphill!
St. Edwards Park - Hill Trail - 12/19/2008  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 4stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour
Most of the hiking that I've found in the Austin Metro area is pretty flat so I was thrilled when I got on this trail and it actually climbed a hill. The first time we went, we followed the Creek Trail for a while, then crossed over and climbed up the steep bank to meet the Hill Trail towards the top. The next time, I followed the directions provided here and it was a less challenging climb, but still got my heart pumping. My dog loves hiking on both sides of the creek, but we both like the Hill Trail better because it's shady and quiet. I'll definitely go back!

Turkey Creek Trail - 12/9/2008  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 1star
Distance: 2.50 Miles Duration: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Although it's not a bad hike for humans, I think I would feel weird going to Turkey Creek without a dog. Nice trail for an afternoon or weekend stroll with the pup. There are usually a lot of people and other dogs, but it's not overwhelming.
