Pretty but not much variability
St. Edwards Park - Creek Trail - 8/11/2007  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3stars Difficulty: 1point5stars Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: N/A
We hiked the full two miles out and back, and I was disappointed to see that the vast majority of the trail consisted of walking along a narrow (sometimes muddy) path nestled amongst waist-high greenery in the woods. It was enjoyable and the many spurs over to the creek afforded nice views (and many, many frog sightings!), but I was hoping for something besides the vanilla sameness that pervaded all but the first few minutes of the trail. Don't get me wrong -- it's a nice walk, but a destination like Comanche Bluff Trail would have been much more enjoyable.
Very easy, very short
Reed Park - 6/10/2007  [View Log Page]
Rating: 2stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 2point5stars
Distance: 0.70 Mile Duration: N/A
I found this hike when looking for something easy for a relative who has trouble walking. It was ideal for those circumstances -- pretty flat, pretty straight, lots of wildflowers. My only complaint was the multitudes of mosquitoes that attacked us at 9 in the morning. However, despite how nice this hike was, it would have left something to be desired for anybody with *any* hiking experience.
Some tricky parts, but nothing extreme
Barton Creek - Upper South - 5/12/2007  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3stars Difficulty: 3point5stars Solitude: 2point5stars
Distance: 3.00 Miles Duration: N/A
Due to the recent rain, the trail was a little muddy in places. This wouldn't have been a problem except that there were several spots on the trail that had small, steep slopes of rock, and it was difficult to get the traction we wanted when our shoes were now muddy. That was only an inconvenience, however, and it was definitely a surmountable obstacle. This was a nice trail.
Very easy, a few families, but still charming
Mayfield Park - 4/28/2007  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 2stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: N/A
The trail was very easy, well marked, and delightfully circuitous. The trails crisscross all over the place, so this may not be the best destination if your goal is to cover a lot of distance and new ground. However, it was beautiful and relaxing.
