I don't know if it was the fact that we did this hike at 7:00 a.m., or that it was cold (love it!!) and we had the place to ourselves, but we loved this hike. The first time was loud (360 traffic), this time it was stunningly quiet - recommend that you do this hike in the peace and quiet of the early morning, on a weekend. Sorry it took us five years to come back.

Hubby (no user name yet) and I decided to hit a trail close to home, and after driving past Wild Basin for the past six years, finally decided to check it out. The hike is fairly easy and very enjoyable. The views of the immediate Austin hill country are wonderful...however, the proximity to a major Austin highway (360), didn't allow us to fully enjoy the natural surroundings. During our trek (10:00 a.m. Saturday), three ambulances, a fire truck and countless amateur drag racers made us quickly realize that we were still in the Austin city limits. Still, this little piece of visual heaven is not to be missed. In spite of the less than perfect natural soundtrack, we will definitely be return visitors.
