A large landslide closed about 25 miles of Highway 1 along the California Coast in Big Sur. For residents and others who'd like to traverse the region there's only one option, a hikers only route. I've driven along Highway 1 north and south of San Francisco. It's a great route and would be even more enjoyable without all of the cars. Because it's the only thoroughfare for large chunks of territory many of the locals and crazed visitors treat the road like a Formula 1 raceway. Heaven forbid you should just be going the posted speed limit. Double yellow lines for no passing? A mere suggestion. Police enforcement of any such laws? Laughable. |
