UnderArmor announced that the MapMyHike app will be removed from app stores and will no longer be updated. It does seem to work at the moment. They recommend you switch to MapMyRun instead. Apparently MapMyRun will have the same functionality and your login will work the same on both apps and sites.

The MapMyHike website doesn't seem to indicate that it will go away and links and the app link still points to the MapMyHike app!

Why the change? Is hiking dead? I suspect it's a cost cutting measure and technically the only thing lost here is the "hiking" name in the app. MapMyFitness and UnderArmor own all of the related brands (MapMyRun, MapMyHike, MapMyRide, MapMyPogoStickOutings, etc.) and there is some cost to have too many endpoints.

Still, I'm sad to see MapMyHike disappear. Both Coppertone and I use it extensively when walking around town and not doing a more serious hike. For "real" hiking I break out the Garmin unit.
