We stayed in our RV at Canyon of the Eagles over the Labor Day holiday. Thank goodness for the A/C as it was over 100 degrees each day! So hiking was limited to the early morning hours. The park was full, but during our morning hikes we saw no other people on the trails! Lots of solitude! And lots of doves. Campground is nice and quiet as well.
Nice hike on a beautiful day.
Pedernales Falls - Wolf Mountain Trail

We enjoyed this hike today on a beautiful day. There are some really scenic ravines near the trail that can be seen if you take some of the small side trails. We have hiked this trail before, and have only seen other hikers in the past, but today a ranger in a pickup passed us going out as we were going in, then one passed us on foot and another passed in another pickup going in as we were going out. Not sure what was going on but this seemed like a lot of ranger traffic and a lot of vehice traffic on the trail. Other than that it was pretty quite exept for several other groups of hikers and backpackers that we passed. There are some nice primitive camp sites in the area.
Still love it out there!
The Canyonlands

This was the latest of many trips we have made to the Canyonlands. We hiked every single trail out there today, including the new half-mile trail on the west side of the park. All of them are great, and even though this was a beautiful Saturday, we only saw a handfull of other people. The trees are starting to show some pretty fall colors, and is is very quiet and peaceful out there. We really enjoyed it!

We hiked this area from the North. The bridge you refer to is at N 30° 14.535 W 097° 47.372. There is a cache there now called BridgeToTerabithia, although it had been muggled when we were there. (Just the bottom of the container and the log book left.) The bridge is really cool though, and the view is really great.
Very scenic near the cave and river.

I spent a few hours at this new county park the other day and found it very enjoyable. There is some very pretty scenery in the small canyon where the rock climbing takes place, as well as along the Pedernales River. There are many miles of trails that are open for hiking, but hikers may find them a little frustrating because they were designed by mountain bikers, and therefore definitely do not go in a straight line! Some of my favorite areas so far include the Grotto: 30 21.782 98 07.418, the Bluff: 30 21.781 98 07.516, and the Beach: 30 22.082 98 07.870. Also, if you go to the bluff and then walk North about 100 yards, look to the South and in the distance your can see the set for the movie "The Alamo". (Take binoculars.) It will undoubtedly be more crowded on the weekends, but when I was there on a Thursday, I saw perhaps a half-dozen people in the climbing area near the cave, and no-one on the hike/bike trails. It's also a good place for bird-watching.
