I like the idea that there is someplace for people to take their dogs off leash but this is ridiculous. There was dog crap everywhere, too much for so close to the water.
Doggy park on an island, nice view at the tip

This is a wide crushed granite loop trail like Town Lake around Red Bud Island.
The view at the tip of the island is beautiful. Also keep an eye out for remnants of the first dam on the Colorado, which burst 100 years ago and unleashed a flood.
Great for dogs and their owners

This is one of the few places in Austin where dogs can play off-leash legally, and as such, dogs definitely rule the island. As a hiker and a dog owner, I'm willing to say that this is a great park for dogs and a bad one for hiking.

Very well maintained trail that roughly follows the outside periphery of Red Bud Isle. There are at least 15 trails that branch off the main "circle" These small trails are all straight shots to the water's edge.
It was okay...crowded, but okay

I decided to go on the island after I rowed past it and thought it looked interesting. It was crowded with people and their dogs...I felt left out since I didn't have a pooch to play and swim with. It wasn't difficult at all, just walking on a gravel path in a circle...but it was oh so hot. Beautiful hot day and I didn't bring my swim suit!
Didn't recogonize it!

It looks nothing like the park I took my ex-wife to see in 1991. I kind of like the old one better.
